About Cake Picnic
Cake Picnic is a touring event founded by Elisa Sunga in 2024. Hundreds of strangers gather in a public park, each bringing a whole cake. No ticket, no entry — and no cake, no entry. People introduce themselves by name and the cake they brought, slice for one another, and leave knowing each other's first names.
What started as 11 people in a single park has scaled to hundreds of cakes per event across 11 cities in 2026, with stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, London, Sydney, Mexico City, and more. The format stays the same: a circle that turns strangers into a group, through cake.
The first Cake Picnic Cookbook releases May 19, 2026 from Chronicle Books — 50 recipes, 272 pages, hardcover, drawn from two years of touring picnics.
Founder bio · Elisa Sunga
Elisa Sunga is the founder of Cake Picnic. She started the event in 2024 after moving to a new city and missing her grandmother's birthday cakes. The first picnic was 11 people in a public park; the format — bring a whole cake, share a slice, introduce yourself — turned out to scale.
She lives in San Francisco. The Cake Picnic Cookbook (Chronicle Books, May 2026) is her first book.
